A Dying Breed? As the birthrate in European countries drops well below the "replacement rate" — that is, an average of 2.1 children born to every woman — the declining population will first be felt in the playgrounds.
Are you kidding with this?
Currently, 90 million new faces appear on the planet annually. This roughly equals the population of California, New York state, Florida, and Texas. Every year.
That's about a BILLION more people every 12 years. A drop in the birth rate is a GOOD thing.
Perhaps a global drop in birthrate would be a good thing, but I can't fault a country for worrying about its declining population, either.
Apparently, the Italian birthrate (at 1.2 children per woman) is the lowest in the world. That's below responsible population stability and indicates a declining Italian population.
While a reduced Italian population might help "balance" other countries' increasing birthrates, it doesn't change the fact that Italians could soon be considered a "dying breed".
Maybe they should start wearing boxers! Ya dont see this problem in africa, where the boys hang free!
